OK, so last time we covered how to install
a six way seat adjuster in the driver's side of your E-Body,
it was easy to do. That took care of the driver's comfort,
but what about that cute brunette keeping the passenger
side seat warm for you? She would like to be more comfortable
on those long road trips too I bet? Chrysler did not make
adjusters for the passenger side of these cars, or did they?
Follow along and see.......
Here is what we are starting with today, nice
rust free original Challenger T/A floor pans.
If you have sharp eyes, you may have noticed
the dimples in the floor, the positions look an awful lot
like the ones we used on the driver's side of the car in
the last article. The dimples are marked here with white
daubs of paint.
Let's check this out, when the under floor
re-enforcing brackets are lined up with the dimples, they
match, sweet! So far, so good.
Time to drill, use a 1/2" drill bit. Be VERY
careful here, the fuel line runs under this area. Go slow
so you not damage it.
Once the holes are drilled, drop in the upper
brackets, and use self tapping Philips head screws to secure
them to the floor.
Time to go under the car now and bolt the
under floor brackets in place, they fit the passenger side
just as well as they did on the driver's side. Here they
are installed.
Now it is time to mock up the adjuster mechanism
to the seat. Notice that the rear ratchet mechanism hits
the seat frame, so we need to make some clearance.
The area to be removed is outlined here in
white.
With that cut out, the rear fits fine, now
on to the front, it hits too.
Here is the area that need to be cut out outlined
in white. Note that we lose an attaching point for the seat
cover here, once I am ready to re-upholster these seats
I will have to get a bit creative with a new attaching point.
And here we are, it is installed and works
great! The whole install took about an hour. Now I just
have to finish the rest of the car and find a brunette to
take on a road trip. :-)
